When we met, two moms whose kids were sprawled across the pedestrian bridge and were grabbing at fish in the tea garden (impeding traffic and likely catching some koi disease), Laura was impressed that I had wrangled two kids down to San Francisco for the weekend at all.
And you’re single?
And you just…decided to?
Well, it was that or Seattle.
That is so impressive!
…I’m an imposter. I’m not impressive at all. My child had just been bitten by a turtle, I had a parking ticket in my purse, and we’d been cowed by the infamous Marin headland winds back up the highway to a cheap Petaluma motel, where we spent our nights watching Full House on the internet rather than camping under the windswept Golden Gate Bridge, listening to foghorns and sea lion barks as we discussed the fate of the lost Alcatraz escapees and roasted organic marshmallows from Williams Sonoma.
However, we immediately recognized in each other the plight of actual traveling moms. As I thought, maybe I have something to share with other moms, I also thought, maybe we are all just different kinds of reluctant travelers.
The reality is messy. And wonderful. ‘Let’s write a book about what not to do!’ we immediately said to each other. This site is the companion to that project. We encourage submissions from all kinds of travelers. Because, you know, we don’t have it all figured out.
